On Being Patient

The end is in sight for our kitchen renovation, and I have to tell you...this takes patience!  We're as eager to see our new kitchen completed as we are to have a working oven again.  It's also tedious to wash dishes in a small bathroom sink.  Did I mention our fridge is in the living room?  You get the picture.

But...if we had to do everything all over again, I don't know that we'd do many things differently.  Late summer-early fall is a great time to renovate because you can keep windows and doors open, and the workers don't wilt as quickly.  It's also a great time to grill out when you're oven-less!  Sammy and Brie are back in school, so a lot of work gets done while they're gone in the mornings  We also picked a time after we'd just seen family...and our parents were on vacation, so we didn't have to host any visitors.  If we'd tried, our guests might have been making coffee in the basement!  

Waiting patiently for 4-5 weeks (which admittedly is not that long for a kitchen renovation) has also been made easier because we know that we've had very few wasted days (i.e. days when no work was done)...fewer than a handful, actually!  Some pretty smart scheduling on the parts of our contractor and myself (all my years of event planning coming in handy!) has been instrumental in giving us the feeling that our renovation is always moving forward. With that in mind, being patient comes easier!

We're also keeping the days flying by by staying busy with the kids' activities, like:

Sammy's Tumblebees!

Tarzan Sam!

And Brie's ballet!

Back in the saddle (I mean, tutu)!

Pretending to be astronauts on the way home from school!

"Houston, there's sand in my helmet."

And playing baseball in the backyard!

Batter up!

OK...we might be a little stir-crazy, but that light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter! More soon!
