I recently read an
article that listed the top baby names that are "destined for stardom." Wouldn't you know it? All three of our kids's names made the list (of 50)! Perhaps I shouldn't be that surprised, though, since we know at least one child (often multiple) for each name on the list (well, except for Pierre)...I'm pretty sure they just listed the most popular names these days, so parents could pat themselves on the back for making a good choice! Apparently, the Gabriellas (#25), Sams (#17) and Sebastians (#6) of the world have stardom to look forward to. (Even the girl name we had chosen for Sebastian was on the list (#22)...phew!) I find it really funny that parents would want to know that when choosing a name. If only one's name were the sole factor in determining which children are headed straight for Hollywood!
But I think we all know that stars are rarely
just born. In fact, Sammy was one of Maple Dale's "Stars of the Week" last week (and proud of it!), but I'm pretty sure everyone gets a week to be a Star...
Here's Sam's Star of the Week questionnaire. Tony read it and goes, "Is this the point in parenthood where I smack my forehead?" I told him, "Maybe it's the point where you tuck this away and bring it back out when he's successful one day??" Or when he's reached stardom?? Ha!
Speaking of stardom, I wonder...what do they mean by that? Could it include becoming soccer stars??
Equally plausible is Sebastian becoming famous for his great hair one day. Speaking of which, my little surfer got his first "big boy haircut" last weekend and he looks a little bit older now and, dare I say, a little bit cuter, too??
In fact, Sebastian is such a big boy now that he thinks he can read books just like his big siblings!
Or perhaps being "headed for stardom" means you're headed straight for the theater downtown? Amie Leigh and I did just that to see the musical "Book of Mormon" last weekend. I had high expectations and they were majorly exceeded. The show was hilarious, albeit off-color and VERY politically incorrect...so much fun! The music and dancing were outstanding, too. What a great show!!
And finally...maybe stardom is in the eyes of the parents? For example, here are the kiddos in a hilarious video (captured by and with narration courtesy of Brie) on our way home from Brie's ballet class earlier this week. Every time I watch it, I crack up! They're the stars of my life!
So I'm not really convinced that celebrity is in any of our futures, but our brushes with stardom this week have been fun, indeed. And one thing's for sure...whether it's due to our names, being Star of the Week, shining in sports, showing off a new hairstyle or watching a (professional or totally amateur) show, stardom is clearly in the eye of the beholder. Hey! Testing, testing...is this thing on??
