March Madness really lived up to its reputation this year...it was stressful and crazy and full of surprises!
But lucky us UVA fans, there was a lot to enjoy! It's hard to beat great college basketball games when your favorite team is playing!
And winning...And winning! When we made it to the Final Four, we ate celebratory donuts the next morning!
Here's Bas brushing up on his basketball skills at Chuck-E-Cheese's.
And you know I raided my favorite consignment shop for all of their orange and blue duds...they had lots to choose from!
Here's one top (and some majorly discounted designer jeans) that I bought. And my little photo-bomber...
For the Final Four, we went out with our neighbors to a sports bar. They graciously rooted for UVA with us!
And like the last few games, it was a roller-coaster! We thought we'd lost but then they called a foul (which we didn't hear because of the noise in the restaurant), and then we went to overtime, and then we won!!!
The rest of the evening was even better after we won! My food tasted amazing and we really enjoyed a local band that our other neighbor plays trombone for (far left). Such a great night!!
In a blink, it was finals day! For good luck, we ate a delicious dinner full of orange and blue foods!
Even the beer!
Oh, and for fun, we looked through old UVA photos...found some gems!We put the kids to bed and then it was game time!!
The game was SO stressful. I literally found myself yoga breathing the entire time...helpful but exhausting. We felt like UVA played well most of the game, but they pretty much gave us a heart attack over and over each time they'd get a good lead and then lose it. Argh!
There were some questionable calls (and some lack of calls), but in the end, UVA really impressed us. The team kept its composure and played beautifully together. You can't ask for more!!
AND WE WON! THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA WON THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP!! What an amazing feeling!!!!!!!!!!!
We sang "The Good Ol' Song" in the living room. Of course!!We were probably too loud. Sebastian wandered out in a sleepy stupor and then fell back to sleep on the sofa.
My cousin Laura's oldest son Colin is a huge UVA fan. Here are her boys celebrating at the end of the game. Love it!!
We were amped that we stayed up for hours enjoying the post-game footage...
But finally made ourselves go to sleep at 1 a.m. We were gleeful and spent!
I have really special memories of going to bed before a NCAA finals game ended and then waking up in the morning to find a Duke sweatshirt that my dad left out for me, so that I knew we won. :-D I did this for Sam...left my UVA shirt for him on the sofa in the basement (since he gets up before the rest of us). When I went down in the morning to tell him all about the game, he was wearing my shirt. Yay!!
Here's our crew ready for school the next day!
One of the best parts of this victory has been all of the wonderful texts, emails and calls from family and friends. Several sent us pics of the newspaper covers the day after!
Plus a funny political cartoon...
We've been celebrating all week...
And savoring the win. Way to go, 'Hoos!
P.P.S. Neither Tony nor I picked UVA to win our brackets this year...we didn't want to jinx our school...and it worked! Tony did nearly win his pool at work, but if he had, then UVA would not have been the champs (obviously), so he wouldn't trade!!
