Oscar Names

Last night, Brie Larson won the Oscar for "Best Actress" in the movie Room, and Sam Smith (rather unexpectedly) won for "Best Original Song" from the Bond movie Spectre.  One thought I had was, "This better not make the name Brie super popular!  (For the record, Brie Larson is actually named Brianne, not Gabriella.)

And Sam Smith?  Well, he's everywhere now and the name Sam has been pretty popular for awhile.

So, hopefully, these two wins don't kick off a trend, if you know what I mean. And I'm pretty sure that no one named Sebastian won last night...fingers crossed!

P.S.  Exactly five years ago, I wrote this post that referenced the Oscars and featured several videos of then 2-year-old Sam and 6-month-old Brie. I thought it would be fun to include it here since so much has changed in five years. The videos are very fun (the last one is my favorite)...and they made me quite nostalgic for our home in Durham, including all of its windows and the vaulted living room ceiling. I also miss the sisal rug we had in the dining room (which pretty much disintegrated after the move), but not the old-school television we used to have. It seems like ages ago that the two of them were so small...back when Brie still sucked whichever thumb she could find first and Sammy looked A LOT like Sebastian does these days. How time flies!
