Tree Huggin'

In honor of Arbor Day, Sammy and Brie came home from school on Friday with Flowering Dogwood saplings to plant in our backyard!

The kids were downright giddy...
to dig in the dirt...
and pick just the right spots...
for new trees! Now we just wait to see if they grow! (And, yay, for the Dogwood...the state tree and flower of Virginia and state flower of North Carolina!)
Speaking of loving nature, we're also enjoying some colorful new landscaping in the front yard...
and Brie brought this artwork home from her field trip to the Nature Center last week. It's the life cycle of a butterfly with beans and pasta...what a clever science project!
And check out the flowers on our island today! We got to keep one of the centerpieces from a dinner/wine-tasting we attended last night! Here's to bringing nature indoors!
P.S. Of course, the best way to reward yourself after a little gardening is with a trip to the frozen yogurt shop!
