Looking back on summer camps

Remember when we were kids and summer seemed to last forever?? I remember feeling like that about the summer before 5th grade, and the part that seemed like an eternity was only 3-4 weeks long! Amazing.

Well, with school resuming later this week, it's hard for Tony and me to believe how quickly the summer has flown by! Needless to say our kiddos have stayed very busy with a variety of camps and activities over the past two months. First of all, Sammy completed his first official "big kid" swim lessons! We deemed them a big success because he is now very comfortable "swimming" under (2 feet of) water, holding his breath under water, blowing bubbles, etc. He even got to go down the big slide at our pool, which was a big thrill for him. He always surprises us with his fearlessness when it comes to new and exciting challenges!
While Sammy was in his swim classes, Brie and I got in some quality pool time. Here's my sweet water baby!

As I've mentioned before, Brie absolutely loved her ballet classes each week. We'll definitely be signing up for those again this fall...
Sammy also enjoyed a week of soccer and basketball camp through the city of Montgomery! Each morning, Brie and I would drop him off (it was tough for us to stay because Brie wanted to participate, too--next summer you'll be old enough, Brie!), and he always reported having had a great time.

And for the last few weeks of summer, Sammy spent a few mornings a week at a local kids' camp where the campers enjoyed everything from gymnastics and art projects to the slip-n-slide and even yoga! It was four hours each morning and included lunch, so with a bunch of Sammy's buddies there, it felt just like school for him.

Even though summer is coming to a close, at least we can look forward to signing up for these fun camps (and more, I'm sure) next summer! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to buy glue sticks and washable markers!

Looks like so much fun! Sammy, please show cousin Olivia some of your favorite moves sometime soon. And Brie, Olive will play with you in the shallow end anytime! :)
