Three Days of Halloween

It's Pumpkin Time!! Lucky for us, that meant three days of Halloween fun! We started with a trip to the Museum of Life and Science, so we could board the...
PUMPKIN EXPRESS!!
First stop: the pumpkin patch! Sammy was very excited to choose his very own pumpkin!

Even Brie got a pumpkin!

Once we were home, it was time to do some carving. Together Tony and Sammy created the perfect little (and, dare I say, slightly scary??) jack-o-lantern!

Then it was costume time!! You're probably thinking, "On Saturday?" and you're right. But we had a feeling that our sunny weather might not last, so Carpe Sol!
Check out Brie (a.k.a. Little Miss Candy Corn)!! Thanks, Gammy, for the sweetest costume ever!!

Here she is with Sammy (a.k.a. Thomas the Train)!!

Don't you love Brie's stockings??
PUMPKIN GLEE!!
Who can climb stairs in this get-up?!

Then this evening, we got to go out for some trick-or-treating! Costume time!

We drove to a neighborhood nearby because it has more kids than ours. It was drizzling, but otherwise, not too bad out!

Sammy LOVED trick-or-treating and was very intrigued by all of the candy he got!!

"Next year, I want some candy!!"
And what did we do on Sunday, you ask?? Well, Tony carved a very special pumpkin just for Sammy. What do you think??

Happy Haunting, everyone!!  Until next year...

P.S. Sammy borrowed this really sweet book from the library recently about a bunch of stuffed toys (led by Elliot) who surreptitiously bake a birthday cake for their friend Lionel. Sammy and Brie both love the book, so I thought it would be fun to bake the actual cake...the recipe is in the back of the book!

These days, Sammy really enjoys baking (they bake once a week at school) and he got a huge kick out of adding all of the ingredients to the mixing bowl, stirring, revving my mixer up too high (so flour flew everywhere), etc.

Here are our two layers!
Then we spread strawberry jam in between the layers, iced the top of the cake and added the requisite M&Ms!
Ta-da!
It actually resembled the cake in the book, too! (spoiler alert: here's a picture from the end of the book)

The cake got two thumbs up from all of us...
including Brie who got the icing EVERYWHERE!

So I'll think we'll be eating Sammy's Halloween candy tomorrow...

Love that candy corn costume! So cute! And the cake looks yummy. What a great idea, to relive the book by baking the cake. Yum!
