2010: A Year in Review

2010 has been quite a year for our family! Here's a quick recap:

January: Steph endures the worst morning sickness in the history of womankind. Well, not really, but it felt like it. Thanks to raisin bagels, SpaghettiOs, tangerines and a daily dose of Zofran, she survived and the sweet reward of her short-lived suffering is sleeping upstairs...beautiful, healthy and 5 months old!

February: Tony's dad Ciro makes multiple trips to Haiti after being brought out of retirement to lead the American relief effort following the catastrophic earthquakes in Haiti. He was even interviewed on BBC America. We were very proud of his work!

March: Steph's mom Ann flies to Australia to visit her brother Marvin for a week. The two of them have a wonderful time catching up and enjoying Melbourne together. Nothing beats time together with a sibling.

April: Steph concludes her first season of reading applications for Duke Undergraduate Admissions. She read over 300 very impressive applications: phew!

May: Sammy starts walking. Hooray! No more crawling on playground mulch!

June: Steph, Tony and Sammy travel to Charlottesville for a very fun 10th Reunion Weekend at UVa! We showed off Sammy, caught up with old friends, and enjoyed walking around Grounds without homework on the brain!

July: Beautiful Gabriella Eve is born. To quote Nancy Tillman's book On the Night you were Born, "Life will never be the same." It certainly is far more wonderful since she arrived.

August: Steph's sister Beth leaves Saks Fifth Avenue after five years and starts a career with Marriott. She now has evenings, holidays and weekends off: FINALLY!! And...Tony's sister Diane and her partner Katya announce they are having a baby in April = Sammy and Brie's first cousin!!

September: Sammy starts school! Our little guy has fallen head over heels for his wonderful "Play Pals" class...and all of the balls, puzzles and playground equipment that he can enjoy. Every day he wakes up and asks, "Daddy go school?" (since Tony drops him off in the mornings). So sweet!

October: We unexpectedly lose Grandma Lonia "Granny" at the age of 82. We miss her and the sunshine she brought into our lives each and every day. Our memories and photos are an enormous comfort.

November: Tony completes his next big publication! This time next year, he'll be in the thick of job hunting!

December: Sammy turns two on a beautiful snowy day (it snowed last year, too!) in Durham. He is now a year older...and still a sweet, charming little ham!!

And a partridge in a pear tree! Happy 2011, dear friends and family!
