Happy Places

When Tony's folks recently took the kids shopping for a new toy, Brie chose one called "Happy Places." It's a Shopkins spinoff we had never heard of, but the name is nice!
And it reminded me of how, lately, we've been reinventing Brie's bedroom--from Sebastian's nursery that we so lovingly decorated...
to Brie's first roommate-less room! She actually moved in last fall (when Sebastian switched from a crib to a bed and moved in with Sammy), but we're finally making it her own--and it's definitely turning out to be yet another happy place in our home.
The biggest change has been paint. I was a little sad to part with the purply-blue Icy from Sherwin Williams, but we're all delighted with how bright and cheery (just like Brie!) Behr's Clear Aqua looks. Brie and I had a lot of fun looking at different teal colors, and this is a bit lighter than what she was originally drawn to...but I think we made a smart choice!
Our initial inspiration came from this owl canvas that our next-door neighbor passed along to us (since it did not work in their daughter's room). We liked Brie's bedspread because all the colors were in the owl picture, and then we used the variety of teal colors in the different owls as springboards for paint choices.
We then framed some of Brie's art to hang as finishing touches around the room...including a jar of fireflies that she painted at camp last summer (the paint glows in the dark!) and a one-eyed purple monster that she painted at school this year.

We also framed Brie's "blinking" creature that makes me smile every time I see it.
Here is Brie's desk...it replaced Sebastian's crib many months ago. Just like in her old room, we hung some jute rope, so she could display her prized artwork, and we replaced Sebastian's mobile with Brie's collection of handmade paper lanterns.
Thanks to a great suggestion from Auntie B, we moved Brie's dresser to the far wall to open up some space in the room. I'm thinking this corner might need a little fur rug (perhaps like this one?) for reading and playing on...
So that's Brie's newest happy place! If you come over, her door is (almost) always open and she will happily give you a tour!!
And she'll tell you about yet another favorite teal thing of hers: the Electric Lemonade popsicle at Delicio. Yum!
P.S. A few weeks after we purchased Brie's comforter and shams at Target, I spotted this ad in a Zulily email. Apparently, college students who "lounge now" and go to "class later" have the same bed comforter as Brie. Haha!
