Climbing the Walls

This month's edition of "Real Simple" has an article in it, entitled, "Put Your Walls to Work." Most of it is about maximizing vertical space and showing you clever ways to display wall art, tchotchkes, etc.
This page made me and Tony laugh. Like, "Who on earth would install an Ikea-inspired climbing wall in their house...and then use it as a scarf rack once the kids stop playing on it?" We both agreed it was at once preposterous and impractical.
But then last night, when he was supposed to be getting into the shower, we discovered that Sammy was messing around in our bathroom and decided to try and hang from Tony's towel rod. Y'know, Simone Biles style? For reasons we may never fully understand, that seemed like a good idea to him. Ugh. Now we need to repair the hole he made and touch up the wall I recently painted. :-(
So there it is, folks...never underestimate (or overestimate!) your kids. They will surprised you, and not always in the best ways. Should I immediately enroll Sam in gymnastics? Perhaps. Maybe after he earns a few privileges back. I'm not feeling particularly forgiving right now...

P.S. In case anyone's wondering, Sammy did feel badly about what he did...though at first he tried to convince us that it happened while he was trying to hang a towel. I knew immediately that was not true. (sigh) Cue the lectures on treating not just people, but our home with respect.

P.P.S. Every time Tony has hung something in any of our homes, he's declared, "You can do a chin-up on it" as his way of letting me know that it's super sturdy. Now we know that we need a new descriptor for towel rods...
