Friendsgiving 2019!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! We hope you had a fun and delicious holiday...we certainly did! With Thanksgiving falling so late this year...and the upcoming holidays just around the corner, we opted to stay in town and host Friendsgiving for the second year in a row. Woohoo!

The kids really got into it!
Brie made napkin rings out of paper towel roll and washi tape!
And Samuel set up an Army base...ready to play with our guests!
I even got a personal concert from the De Falco Trio!
We had a brief power outage the day before Thanksgiving (Ahhh!), but Samuel astutely reminded me that we have a gas stove top...so I was able to boil our sweet potatoes!
When the power came back on (Hooray!), I made my mom's cranberry recipe...
And baked a chocolate-chip pecan pie. More on this later...
Up bright and early and ready to celebrate!
Tony and I woke up pretty early, too, and started to tackle our delectable menu. We actually thought we'd have a little downtime before our guests arrived, but alas, we were down to the wire...ha!

Done!!
 Everything turned out great!
The kids were ready to start!
Let's eat!! We were joined by Karen and Joshber, our friends from Venezuela. It was their very first Thanksgiving meal! Our neighbors the Herreras came, too. We agreed that when you can't travel back home for every holiday (they're from Texas), then good times with good friends are hard to beat. We were all thankful for so many things this year...
Everything was SO delicious and we've been enjoying the leftovers again and again, of course.

What could make a Thanksgiving even more wonderful?? UVA beating Virginia Tech in football for the first time in sixteen years. YEAHHHHH!!
Then we took the time to do a little holiday decorating. Here are our newest ornaments: 1) a sea turtle on a sand dollar that Gammy got us in Ft. Myers, 2) a moose that Samuel picked out for me in Jackson Hole and 3) a squirrel that came in a chocolate Santa that Brie's friend Paige gave to her.
Check out our tree! Did you spot Snowflake in the pic??
Admiring my little light-up houses (Thanks, Target dollar aisle!)...
We even took advantage of a warm night this week and enjoyed the Festival of Lights at the zoo...a family tradition of ours.
It was a lovely night and not too busy...lucky us!
Rainbow Family!
We're in denial that the holidays are in 3+ weeks. Time to prepare!!

P.S. So...that chocolate-chip pecan pie... I've made the recipe half a dozen times with no issues, but this year, the pie did not congeal. It was a yummy, sweet, soupy mess...haha! Oh, well!
