We had a special guest visit last weekend! His name was Skippyjon Jones...do you know him? There was some debate about whether Skippyjon is a Siamese cat (apparently!) or a Chihuahua (that, too!), a ninja/superhero or a Gremlin...but the bottom line was that this beloved character from Judith Schachner's popular book series was Sammy's responsibility for the weekend!
Tony and I should have known that Sammy would be totally up to the task of watching over someone special like Skippyjon; after all, he's been wild about and protective of Baby Sebastian since he arrived. You know those enthusiastic grandmas who love babies so much that they nearly put an entire baby foot in their mouth? That's Sam. He often cannot contain his excitement over having a little brother. Well, he showed the same enthusiasm with Skippyjon. Here's a photo that Sammy took of our guest of honor, the journal and backpack he came with, and two of Sebastian's baby toys. I used to line up my toys and take their pictures, too...haha.
Our weekend went like this: Skippyjon watched the kids dress up for Halloween and go trick-or-treating...
He got to try on the fireman's hat that Sammy got at the Sycamore Firehouse last week...
He witnessed some quality challah braiding...
Turned out great!
He made sure Sebastian was safe while playing on the floor...
and even went for a nature hike with the kids!
What fun it was to watch Sammy dive headfirst into an assignment from school. He even lectured Tony and I multiple times about how, "We can't get him dirty," and "We must be very gentle/careful with Skippy," and "Mrs. Shapiro has had him for 31 years!" (debatable) Above all, it was a privilege for Sam to have a big responsibility and he definitely rose to the challenge. One day, he just might be ready for a dog! ;-)
Here are the journal entries that he wrote and submitted:
On Monday morning, the first words out of Sam's mouth were, "I'm going to miss Skippyjon Jones, but now another kid in my class can enjoy him." Lesson. Well. Learned.
