Memorable

I never would have guessed that I'd spend so much of motherhood thinking things like, "I really want to remember this moment!" and "Don't grow anymore! I want to remember you just like this!" and "I can barely remember Sammy when he was Sebastian's age. Thank goodness for photos and videos!"  And for this blog, of course. I'm grateful that I have both to look back on...to fill in the gaps that exist in my memories.

And it's not just images in my head that I want to cherish and hold onto. There are also all those funny and entertaining things that kids say. I don't take the time to write them all down (kudos to the parents who do!), but I do try to share the best gems with Tony and our families. And for the very best, I try to put them somewhere they'll be preserved forever...like here! Remember these great quotes? I hope to!

And here are a few recent ones that I've replaying in my mind. Enjoy!

1.  I was recently reading one of Sebastian's favorite animal books with Sebastian. It's an Italian book and most of the time, I read it in Italian. For variety's sake, I thought I'd read it in English. Sebastian immediately looked at me and said, "No. Do Nonna." Ha! At least he knows that Nonna speaks Italian. Now I'm wondering if he thinks I do a good impression of her... ;-)

Speaking of our little guy, I adore this "Oh, cookies! How I do love thee! Mom, please can I help you make cookies really quickly, so that I can gobble them all up??" face!
2.  The other day, I showed Brie a book I had found for her at the library. She was excited about the book, went to her room and quietly read...for about 15 minutes. Then she emerged and said, "That was a really good book." Tony and I were both very puzzled. "Brie, did you finish that entire book already?" Brie: "What? It's only 71 pages!"

Brie:  "What would happen if it was July 17th and we still hadn't planned my birthday (which falls on July 19th)?" Me: "Well, that's not gonna happen considering you've been planning your next birthday since July 20, 2016!!"

3.  Me (in reference to his upcoming Old-Fashioned School Day (that took place recently): "Sam, have you been studying the pioneers? How was their life different from ours?" Sammy:  "It's similar, but more oldie-time."

Sammy:  "Mom, I want to set up a stand--like a lemonade stand--so that I can sell my Pokemon cards for money, and use the money to buy Pokemon cards for kids who don't have them."
Me: " Sam, that doesn't make much sense."
Sammy:  "OK...I want to sell them and use the money to buy toys for me and Brie."
Me:  "Sam, that doesn't make much sense either."
Sammy:  "OK!  OK!  It's for college.  It's expensive, you know!"

I also hope to remember these beautiful spring days, when the kids played nicely for hours and hours with their neighborhood buddies in the backyard...
And the silly times, like when Sebastian happily gave Sam an exam at the orthodontist (yes, he remembered to wear gloves)...
And then gleefully helped Tony make homemade pizza later that day. The boy LOVES to bake and cook!
How about when the kids are extra clever and extra sweet? Like when Brie and Sammy dressed as an artist and a scientist (respectively) for Career Day during Spirit Week last week. My hunch is that they'll combine both of those professions one day!
And then there are those times of random cuteness...like Sebastian wearing Sammy's old Iron Man mask and wielding Sam's Jason Voorhees machete (while still in his PJs). Formidable??
That type of role-playing can be exhausting!
But if you get a good, little nap in before lunch, then you can emerge revitalized...and hungry for lunch!
Hooray, for all the funny, delightfully sweet and memorable memories that come with parenthood. And here's to millions and millions more!

P.S. Here are two photos that will not be soon forgotten. Tony traveled to San Antonio for a work trip recently. He had a wonderful time...eating lots of red meat, visiting the Alamo, attending the rodeo, AND riding a mechanical bull!
He said it was tough, but lots of fun! Yeehaw!
