Let's start at the beginning. This was the master bedroom as advertised in the real estate listing. Pretty much a blank slate.
As most of you know, the very first thing we did was remove the carpet and paint the room (we chose Sherwin Williams "Agreeable Gray"). Sorry this photo is not the best...I took it very quickly with my cell phone while holding my breath. The polyurethane and paint fumes were pretty strong!
Then we moved our furniture in and bought a BEEEAUTIFUL rug from Overstock.com (yay, for the store-wide rug sale!). Here's that bit o' progress:
Then we added some accessories that we love, including our new favorite: a stretched canvas of a photo that Tony's cousin Ralph took. It's the view from Tony's family's house on Ponza (in Italy) at sunrise. We chose a "split tone" finish, so it would have a deep yellow hue that goes with our shams and other room accessories. It's hard to tell, but the size is 20"x40".
Other things that we LOVE in our bedroom include a pair of Asian-inspired black-and-gold frames that I snatched up at the Montgomery Goodwill for just $8! I felt genuinely guilty walking out of there!
They are very special...someone actually gave them as a birthday gift...back on April 5, 1927! (I know because they signed the back!!)
This cute little owl dish that I spotted on Urban Outfitters' web site fit right in, too!
We hung two photos of our cutie pies...who are much bigger now!
On my nightstand, I have one of my favorite photos of Grandma Lonia and Granddaddy Sam.
And, finally, the icing on the cake/room: my mom and I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond last weekend to pick out curtains. We already had black rods and grenade-like finials that we love, but no curtains to hang! From BB&B's fantastic selection, we ended up choosing the gray ones below (which have a waffle weave) and some sheers with a tree pattern on them (SO similar to ones I was eyeing on West Elm, but for much less).
So...here's where we are today!
I chose to alternate the gray curtains and sheers because we only have one (off-center) window behind our bed. I think it works!
Here's that other room angle from earlier. It now includes the beautiful red cabinet that I got from Grandma Janis and the drawing that Tony's brother did of us from our wedding day...two more favorite things!
Once again, here's the before:
On to the next room!
P.S. I recently completed a decorating style quiz online and here are my results. I could not agree more!

Steph, it looks amazing. I really am going to have to ask for some cousin consultation when we do a facelift on our dark den...
