Well, we're back to March again and nearing the one-year anniversary of the start of our strange new normal. One year since the last time I ate in a restaurant (lunch with a good friend at a restaurant that closed during the pandemic 😔) and one year since the last time we flew on a plane. One year since school went virtual and one year since the majority of our in-person social life and after-school activities ended. Time really flies/drags! I would never want to go back and I'm proud of how far we've come. Still...could it all just please be over soon??
We've had the strangest weather lately...warm, then snowy and REALLY cold and now warm again! Sebastian's snowman art sums it all up pretty well!
On the upside, our regular ol' daily routine has been punctuated by some pretty fun things lately. For example, February is typically the doldrums of winter for us as we patiently await spring and spring break (the latter being far less important to us this year since we don't plan to travel), but we had a few bright spots this year that kept us going. Like making valentines for all our friends!
And then receiving them from all our friends, too!
Sebastian's classmate Penny made him this clever one.
We even did a little Conversation Heart science (spoiler alert: they sink in water and vinegar, but sink and then float in seltzer!).
Posing for a Valentine's Day pic for the grandparents. 💚💜💙
For a special Valentine's Day breakfast, we made crepes! The kids thought it was really fun to customize them!
For V's Day, Brie made a Lego kit for Sebastian, complete with instructions.
It made this cute heart. 💙
And, of course, I had to bake something, so I tried this
cereal treat recipe that calls for half a packet of Jello mix (I used strawberry flavor). It smelled like Cap'n Crunch while I was making it and they were delicious to eat!
March has been fun, too, so far! Sebastian's class celebrated 100 days of school by surprising the teacher by logging on all dressed as 100-year-olds!
And then they wrote about what they will be like when they're one-hundred. Apparently, Sebastian will live in Japan, eat lots of fruit and play soccer with his friends (and he'll have a white mustache, beard and eyebrows)!
We also recently participated in Rockdale's Mamma Mia/ABBA-themed Purim shpiels--both as a family and as a couple. They made the weekend so much fun! (Tony and I each wore one of Granny's sequiny tops. She would be been delighted that we got to enjoy them!)
Here's what we looked like singing the finale "Shushan Queen" (a play on ABBA's "Dancing Queen"), complete with disco lights!
It was great to bring out our 70's prom outfits again for the adult-only Purim party!
And we tried a new hamantaschen recipe that was outstanding. Can't wait to make them again!
The weather's been sunnier lately, so we're all dreaming of spring. Brie recently ordered some Arctic Fox
hair dye for a low commitment change. Love this copper color in her hair!
While we're of course hoping that 2021 is not a repeat of 2020, I do have to mention some of the kids' newfound favorite activities thanks to the pandemic...they're constantly on replay. Every (EVERY!) morning Sebastian wants to play on the couch with his stuffed animals before school starts. Nine times out of ten the scenario is the same: we awaken to find baby dragons and puppies in our home and we must keep and care for them. It's fun, but we've been playing this game for months now. 😂
Samuel's still digging the STEAM game Terraria that he got for his birthday. He plays it often and has loved the challenge. (He's looking very handsome in this pic because he was all ready to host the virtual Rising 5th Grader Intermediate School Orientation!)
And Brie is still all slime, all the time. She stands at our island, sits in front of her Chromebook during school AND pops a squat during family movie night and cranks out slime after slime. I definitely think it's been her key to destressing during all of this. She's like a little slime scientist!
Hip, hip hooray for spring! We're ready for change!
